ALOHA method

ALOHA PROCESS IN THE RFID SECTOR

ALOHA METHOD - What is it?

Fitting to the name, the ALOHA method comes from the Hawaiian Islands, where it was developed during the construction of radio stations. Due to a special form of constant requests and random transmission of identification numbers, the time of transmission is less than it was the case with the previous radio contact.

Problems with transmission occur less frequently, so that the ALOHA method can now be used outside radio stations in Hawaii.

What is the ALOHA Process in the RFID Sector?

In the RFID field, the readers and the special RFID labels support the identification of goods with sophisticated technology. It is possible to evaluate the labels with a wider range. Direct contact with a scanner with the barcode is no longer necessary with special technology. This is particularly practical for numerous companies and replaces the operation of simple barcodes, which cannot be read at a distance or when heavily soiled.

The ALOHA procedure in RFID technology additionally supports simpler communication and reading of data. By combining the processes, companies gain greater advantages, better transmissions, and finally, a greater range than was previously possible. In the RFID field, the ALOHA process, therefore, helps to read out the data. In this way, transmission difficulties are less likely to occur.

The function of the ALOHA Process

The ALOHA method divides the data into several packets of the same size to simplify transmission. In addition, the transponders are requested by a reader to send the data. The readers respond after a random time, avoiding collisions here.

The function of the ALOHA process thus relates to the transmission of data in the same way as it does to the reading of data. This function was necessary to prevent data collisions as far as possible in connection with the anti-collision procedure.

Benefits of an Advanced Planning System (APS)

The ALOHA method divides the data into several packets of the same size to simplify transmission. In addition, the transponders are requested by a reader to send the data. The readers respond after a random time, avoiding collisions here.

Areas of Application for the ALOHA Process

Today, the ALOHA method is not only used for contacting radio stations but also for reading information from RFID transponders. The ALOHA method is used in the RFID field when many labels are present in a confined space and need to be read. The ALOHA method is mainly used for small amounts of data that must be transmitted in a short time and without interference.

Advantages of the Aloha Process

It is particularly interesting for the industry to work with the ALOHA method to read numerous RFID labels. The information from all the transponders is read more easily than is otherwise the case when there are many RFID labels in a confined space. Data collisions rarely occur, making the use of RFID labels even more practical and simple. Especially in the case of quite small amounts of data, as is the case with serial numbers and barcodes, RFID labels can be used.

Limitations of the procedure

Problems with the procedure occur with large amounts of data, so the use is rather intended for small amounts of data. It may happen that interference occurs when several people request access at the same time. In such a case a collision occurs, it happens that a request to read the data does not get through.

Therefore, the ALOHA method is ideal when people start requests one after another and not when several users try to get the requested data at the same time.
